How To Reset Keyboard Settings in Windows 10

Reset keyboard settings – Is your keyboard acting strangely in Windows 10? Maybe certain keys are producing the wrong symbols, or keyboard shortcuts aren’t working as expected. Resetting your keyboard settings to default can often fix these issues and get your keyboard back on track.

Here’s a quick and easy guide on how to reset your keyboard settings in Windows 10:

Using Language Settings:

  1. Click on the Start menu and type “Language settings.”
  2. Select “Language settings” from the search results.
  3. Under “Preferred languages,” click on the language you want to use as your default input method.
  4. Click on “Options.”
  5. Under “Keyboards,” you’ll see a list of keyboard layouts installed on your system. If you only have one keyboard layout, you’ll need to add another one temporarily to reset the settings. Click on “Add a keyboard.”
  6. Choose a keyboard layout that you don’t typically use (e.g., French Canadian).
  7. Click “Next” and then “Install.”
  8. Once the new keyboard layout is installed, click on it, and then click the up arrow to move it to the top of the list. This will make it your default keyboard layout.
  9. Restart your computer.
  10. After restarting, go back to Language Settings and follow steps 3-5 again.
  11. This time, select the keyboard layout you actually want to use and move it to the top of the list.
  12. Click “Remove” for the additional keyboard layout you installed earlier.

Using Device Manager (for advanced users):

  1. Press the Windows logo key + R to open the Run dialog box.
  2. Type “devmgmt.msc” and press Enter to open Device Manager.
  3. Expand the “Keyboards” section.
  4. Right-click on your keyboard device and select “Uninstall device.”
  5. Check the box next to “Delete the driver software for this device” (if available) and click “Uninstall.”
  6. Restart your computer. Windows will automatically reinstall the keyboard driver and reset the settings to default.
