In Windows 8, you had to try to so via the Charms Bar. In Windows 8.1, you’ll do so via the Charms Bar. It’s pretty easy using a keyboard shortcut.

Once you are on the desktop, Press ALT+F4 to initiate the shutdown command.
From the dialog box select shut down and click OK or press Enter on the keyboard. it’s as simple as that.
